Tendulkar rues Gayle masterclass

Gayle, the 2011 IPL's highest run-scorer by a long shot thanks to two whirlwind centuries and a host of other swashbuckling knocks, blazed his way to 89 from just 47 balls on Friday as Bangalore triumphed by 43 runs.
For their win, the Royal Challengers booked a place in Saturday's final against the Chennai Super Kings. Mumbai, meanwhile, crashed out of the tournament despite romping through the league stages.
The left-handed Gayle's hefty half-ton, with Mayank Agarwal's 41 along for the ride, steered Bangalore the bulk of the way to a total of 185 for four, with Mumbai's lame reply restricted to a mere 142 for eight.
The former Windies captain was particularly brutal across the opening throes of the match in cranking Mumbai seamer Abu Nechim for three fours and a six as Bangalore reaped 27 runs off the first over.
Falling from 113 for none to 157 for four, Daniel Vettori's men lost their way somewhat through their middle-order, before AB de Villiers set them back on track with a brisk 21 not out.
"The way Chris Gayle started, especially the first over, sort of set the tone for Bangalore," said Tendulkar.
"But we came back strongly in the last 10 overs considering the pace that they were going at. We held them back to 185 runs on a night when they could have on to score 200-plus after the kind of start that they had got. We pulled back quite nicely."
Agarwal was dropped twice - by Lasith Malinga and then Rohit Sharma - during a record 113-run alliance with Gayle and the Mumbai bowlers conceded as many as 13 wides at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
"I though 170 would have been a good total to restrict Bangalore to. Maybe we ended up giving away 15 extra runs, couple of wide balls here and there - that really cost us dearly. Our fielding was not up to the mark either," added Tendulkar.
Triumphant captain Vettori hailed the impact of Syed Mohammad, whose figures of two for 25 went a long way in bringing his side victory.
The left-arm spinner bagged the key scalp of Tendulkar, whose departure for 40 at 68 for three pretty much signalled the end of Mumbai's hopes of victory.
"Syed did a great job. He got us the big breakthrough in form of Tendulkar. He is a very confident guy and he is very sure of his game. That helps in these big games." enthused Vettori.
